How to Check the Oil in Your MAZDA

Preparing
It's not recommended to simply check the oil without preparing ahead of time. First of all, you should wait a few hours after your trip to The River Golf Club. That’s because driving causes the oil to heat up and can be dangerous to handle. Another way that you can prepare is by parking on a flat surface. Slopes and slants can change the result of your oil check, so a level plane is always recommended. It's also wise to procure a lightly colored rag or paper towel with which to wipe your hands and the dipstick. Last but not least, check your Owner's Manual for any model-specific details that your vehicle might have pertaining to its oil.
First Steps
If you're ready to check the oil in your Mazda CX-50, Mazda3 Hatchback, or Mazda CX-90, then pop open the hood and locate the dipstick. This is usually inserted near the engine and is indicated by a brightly colored ring or knob. Pulling it out will show you roughly how much oil is left in the pan when you compare the fluid to the recommended fill line. However, to get a more accurate estimate, wipe it on the rag that you collected earlier and reinsert it into the powertrain. Next, take it back out and you'll have a better image of the amount left in your vehicle. Schedule an appointment with us if it is too low. Did you notice any graininess or dark coloration in your oil? If so, it's time to get a new batch, as worn-down fluid will not lubricate the engine properly, resulting in lowered efficiency and performance on roads like I-520. However, if the amount of oil in your car was adequate and its quality was good, you may be able to last a bit longer without getting service. It's still a good idea to mark down the date that you checked the oil and its current level. That way, when you check the reservoir again next month, you can tell if your car is losing oil more quickly than normal.
